Re Liverpool

Earlier in the year a few of us went to Liverpool on a day out. Ruth had spotted that there was a walk of Liverpool and this was lead by 2 local Architects and an Architectural Photographer Paul McMullin. There was quite a group on the walk, not only us, but not so many that you could not follow what was going on.
The walk was fascinating, it not only included details of the local Architecture but also a lot of history as well, and the reason for some of the buildings. The two architects knew their stuff and were very easy to get on with and answered all our questions very well. Having Paul McMullin there was a treat to behold. He was very friendly and passed on a lot of information, and answered all the questions with a lot of detail (I wish I had a tape recorder). He even gave us a tip of how to photograph buildings from another building.
Paul's website is  http://www.paulmcmullin.com/ and is well worth a look. He uses a Nikon and a tilt/shift lens amongst other lenses. He even brought with him his lenses for us to use. Unfortunately they were Nikon, we had Canon's.The other thing was that we did not have time to take many pictures ourselves as we had to keep moving. We ended up at a building in Liverpool 1 that the Architect had designed. it was a coffee shop and he explained how he came about the design. Basically it was an A4 sheet of card, cut in such a way that it formed the building, amazing.

Here are some of my images from the day, a splendid day was had by all.

This is a late afternoon shot of the Albert Dock

This is a later afternoon shot of the Liver Building, one of the 3 Graces, but the origin of this saying is unknown.

This is an image taken of the new Mann Island apartment block, with the reflection of 1 of the 3 Graces.

This is a general view of the Mann Island development, also showing the new Museum of Liverpool, still under construction at the time

It was Steve's birthday that day, and the ladies in John Lewis made this cake for him, and they sang Happy Birthday to him. Did we laugh.

This is the coffee house designed by the Architect which was at the end of the walk. You can get a sense of how it came about from a flat piece of card.
